Overview

Department of Community Medicine plays a pivotal role in complementing and reinforcing the University manifesto of setting exemplary standards in quality teaching, training & research and particularly instilling a rural bias among students. The department has faculty with excellent credentials in terms of qualification, experience & exposure to academics, applied and field research.

The department is amply resource- rich as an excellent ‘knowledge hub’ for students perusing post-graduation/doctoral programmes in preventive & social medicine. Infrastructure /facilities include:

Seminar & Demonstration rooms

Public health Research laboratory which is well equipped with dissecting microscopes & entomology slides

Public health museum with 16 models, 142 specimen, 62 charts/Posters

Library that is well stocked with 400+ books and 18 Journals on Community Medicine.

IT enabled communication infrastructure & teaching paraphernalia

Well equipped & appropriately located Rural & Urban Health Training Centres, involved in both training students and providing community based preventive, promotive& curative services.
 

Service Delivery & Operational Research Profile:

Since inception the department has set exemplary precedents in designing, planning, implementing, monitoring/ evaluating various health projects/ programmes with applied/operational research component.

Outreach Service activities: Services are provided via Community based fixed service out lets - RHTC, RHC, UHTC, & Mobile service Outlets via camps at hilly terrain and social service camps.

Rural health Training Center (Coverage of a population of 28,788; AWC: 13, Schools: 06)

Rural Health centre (Coverage of a population of 1198; families 199).

Community Medicine is actively contributing to research in the form of activities through a Mother NGO (RCH) & various research projects in the field of RCH, IDDCP & other important public health areas by collaborating at State & National level.
 

Future Vision :

To develop the department a Center of Excellence in public health, and to become a role model & key/nodal resource in the state for capacity building, policy planning and quality assurance; liaison with national/ international agencies for planning and implementation of need based health & development programme.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible Subjects :

Master's degree in Epidemiology/ Community Medicine or M.Sc. in Clinical Research

Eligibility to Seek Admission in Ph.D. Programme :

Candidates who have completed any of the following :

1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor's degree programme

OR

2-year/4-semester master's degree programme after a 3-year bachelor's degree programme

OR

Qualifications declared equivalent to the master's degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body

OR

Candidates must have secured at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.

Note -

  • The Ph.D. scholars who are enrolled in the Ph.D. program, shall continue to pay the tuition fee until submission of their final thesis within the stipulated duration as prescribed by the University from time to time.
  • Duplicate Degree fee ?1,000/- shall be charged subject to the condition that the original Degree has been mutilated/ lost.
