Research in Medical Physics

Overview

PhD program in Medical Physics gives students the opportunity to engage in impactful and innovative research related to application of physics in medical sciences. Trainees learn the relevant principles, research methods and analytic approaches used in medical field. Besides, students publish their research work in leading journals and present their studies in national or international seminars/ conferences. In many cases, supervisors and graduate students interface with industry, explore patenting of their innovations and experience translation of research to the clinic, firsthand.

Targeted Research Areas

Evaluate the potential of current practices and devices through pre-clinical treatment planning and imaging studies.

Collaborate with radiation oncologists in the conduct of Clinical Trials

Evaluate, specify, install and commission equipment and systems appropriate for clinical practice and research

Manage or help manage software and hardware systems for processing images, planning radiation treatments, electronic medical records, Radiation Oncology Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) and other clinical and research applications.

Research Facilities

Department is equipped with several novel technology based equipment for trials and patient treatment including Cardiac Cath Lab, CT Simulator Unit, Two Linear Accelerators (one Dual Energy, one single Energy Photon beam with a range of electron energies), MicroSelectron HDR Brachytherapy Unit, MP3-M TBA RFA Unit, VIDAR Film Scanner, Gamma Camera Unit, Hot Lab, Treatment Planning System, Radiation Measuring Instruments: Cylindrical, Plan parallel & Well type Ionization Chambers, Radiation Monitoring Instruments: Survey Meters, Contamination monitor, Radio-immunoassay, Medical imaging including CT Scan, MRI, Biochemical Imaging, Intervention imaging.
